Scam, but not scary

What your phishing radar should look out for

Phishing may be a shape-shifter, but knowing what to expect can equip you to keep it at bay. Usually, phishers want to obtain access to your account, know your card details or trick you into installing spyware through a malicious link or attachment. To do this, they may reproduce Swissquote emails, web pages or documents, and contact you impersonating the bank.

The following scenarios should ring your alarm bells

Dodgy-looking replicated Swissquote web pages, emails or documents. Look for these signs:

  • Web domains other than Swissquote’s official ones*
  • Distorted Swissquote logos or low-quality content
  • Inaccurate or suspicious email address
  • An abundance of typos or poor grammar
  • Communication in a language other than the one set in your Swissquote account
  • Links to disclose personal data or account details
  • Unrequested emails, phone calls, SMS or private messages from a source posing as Swissquote
  • Suspicious email attachments requesting that you install potentially malicious software or make a payment
  • Invitations to invest in wonder financial products
  • Requests to transfer your money with the promise to receive a larger amount in return
  • Demands to unblock your account, to change your account credentials or to unsubscribe from an offer

*Swissquote’s official domains are: trade.swissquote.ch, trade.swissquote.co.uk, inx.swissquote.eu, trade.swissquote.cy, swissquote.ch, swissquote.com, swissquote.info, swissquote.ae, swissquote.co.uk, swissquote.sg, swissquote.lu, swissquote.eu, swissquoteasia.com, swissquote.bank, swissquote.mt

In all cases, remember that Swissquote will never contact you by phone, email or SMS to ask you to disclose your account credentials or card details. Likewise, we don’t send emails with links to login pages.

Mobile Level 3: the most bulky bodyguard for your account
Mobile level 3 interface

Level 3, our two-factor authentication login, is the direct comeback to phishing’s heavy reliance on password theft. By setting it up, you’ll receive a unique Mobile Level 3 access code on your smartphone, valid only for each login, thus adding a supplementary shielding layer to your banking ecosystem.

Stay one step ahead of phishing

There’s no such thing as too much protection for your money. Here are some additional tips to prevent frauds, especially if you have not yet set up Mobile Level 3 to your account.

In general, be sceptical of claims of instant returns or high yield with no risk, and keep in mind that being pressured to make a decision quickly is usually a red flag. Remember to never fill in any page or form you may be redirected to with your account credentials, card details, or other sensitive information.

In all cases, if you suspect you have been a victim of fraud, we recommend you to change your password immediately.

Be aware of the risk

Trading leveraged products on the Forex platform, such as foreign exchange, spot precious metals and Contracts for Difference (CFDs), involves significant risk of loss due to the leverage and may not be suitable for all investors. Prior to opening an account with Swissquote, consider your level of experience, investment objectives, assets, income and risk appetite. Losses are in theory unlimited and you may be required to make additional payments if your account balance falls below the required margin level and therefore you should not speculate, invest or hedge with capital you cannot afford to lose, that is borrowed or urgently needed or necessary for personal or family subsistence. Over the past 12 months, 76.32% of retail investors have either lost money when trading CFDs, experienced a total loss of their margin at the closing of their position or ended up with a negative balance after closing their position. You should be aware of all the risks associated with foreign exchange trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
